A 4% annual increase in official vacancies continues to remain significant in and of itself for a sectoral employer the size of Health & Social Care. By the last month of the quarter (June), however, original ad volumes were still 18% higher than in the same period last year – the only sector where numbers were up YoY. The sharpest YoY increases in ad volumes included an 25% increase in ads for Pharmacy professionals, 27% more for roles in Social Care and 21% more ads for Nurses.

In line with a 14% fall, YoY, in the number of official Finance & Insurance industry vacancies recorded by ONS in February-April, there were 6% fewer original ads posted in the last month of the quarter (April). With the number of ads placed by employers remaining static, YoY, the decline was fueled by fewer ads being placed by recruitment intermediaries. Amongst the underlying occupations, there was a 24% increase in the number of ads for roles as Actuaries and a 23% increase in ads for roles in Taxation. Despite a 6% annual increase in the number of official vacancies in the three months to April, the number of original job ads in the final month of the period was 28% lower than the number posted a year earlier. With the number of ads posted directly by hirers increasing remaining static, YoY, at 37k, the decline in volumes has been in ads posted by agencies.
